DOJ Sues Roger Stone, Claims He Owes $2 million In Unpaid Taxes
The Justice Department sued Roger Stone accusing Roger and his wife Nydia of failing to pay nearly $2 million in income tax.
The suit alleges that the couple used an entity called Drake Ventures to “shield their personal income from enforced collection” and to fund a “lavish lifestyle.”
“Despite notice and demand for payment, Roger and Nydia Stone have failed and refused to pay the entire amount of the liabilities,” the lawsuit says.
“This is yet another example of the Democrats weaponizing the Justice Department in violation of the rule of law. I will fight these politically motivated charges and I will prevail again,” Stone said in a statement.
“The Internal Revenue Service is well aware of the fact that my three-year battle for freedom against the corrupted Mueller investigation has left me destitute,” Stone told The Associated Press.
“They’re well aware that I have no assets and that their lawsuit is politically motivated. It’s particularly interesting that my tax attorneys were not told of this action, filed at close of business on a Friday. The American people will learn, in court, that I am on the verge of bankruptcy and that there are no assets for the government to take.”
From The New York Post:
The civil lawsuit, filed in federal court in Florida, alleged that Stone and his wife, Nydia, used a commercial entity to “shield their personal income from enforced collection and fund a lavish lifestyle despite owing nearly $2 million in unpaid taxes, interest and penalties.”
Stone said his tax bill has been public knowledge for years and called claims of a lavish lifestyle “a laughable joke.”
Trump granted Stone a presidential pardon in December, wiping away the criminal conviction. Trump had previously commuted Stone’s sentence, allowing him to avoid a prison sentence.
